Primard gardens
The park of Primard exerts a natural fascination on every visitor. Its exceptional location on the banks of the Eure is unique. The outstanding design by Jacques Wirtz over 35 years ago further enhances the magic of the place.

The artist Jacques Wirtz, born in 1924, is one of the most important landscape artists of the 20th century. In France, he designed the Carrousel gardens between the Louvre and the Tuileries. His recognisable style combines very orderly hedge structures with the undulating forms of boxwood topiaries. No two of his gardens are the same, and his adaptation to the site, the preservation of important subjects by incorporating them into the final design, as well as the multitude of 'gardens' within the garden - which are as many surprises for the visitor - are the characteristic features of the landscape gardener.
Thus guided for more than 30 years, the garden has blossomed and been enriched by rare trees with magnificent autumn colours and shrubs whose early flowering heralds a bright spring at the end of winter. Hundreds of rosebushes, some of which now climb over thirty metres into the foliage of the trees, pastel-coloured peonies and perennials cover the undergrowth...
Beyond the intrinsic beauty of each flower, the general harmony of their shapes and colours, the subtlety and refinement that presided over the creation of this garden have been pushed to the point of thinking about the mixture of their fragrances. To smell the scent of the lime trees in bloom mingling with that of the roses is an experience of extreme delicacy...
Few gardens combine so many qualities: perfect adaptation of the design to the site, respect for the surrounding nature and integration of elements left untouched, layouts and compositions that magnify the buildings, finesse in the selection of perennials that liven up the volumes... To which can be added the collection of more than 250 varieties of roses that make up the Primard rose garden.
